Global Herbalism Approach to PCOS: New Insights

90 min webinar

Polycystic ovary syndrome ( Now Polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS)) is the most common hormonal condition in women of reproductive age, affecting roughly one woman in ten, and it walks into herbal practice constantly. It arrives as irregular cycles, as stubborn weight, as acne that has not responded to anything, as unwanted hair growth, as infertility, and very often as a client who has been told she has PCOS and given no useful explanation of what that means for her specifically.

Here is what has changed, and it is why we are having this course. PCOS is not one condition, and treating it as one is why so many protocols disappoint. Four recognized presentations sit under the single diagnosis, and they behave differently. The woman with marked insulin resistance and central weight gain and the slim woman with high androgens and irregular cycles both meet the criteria, and a strategy built for one will underperform badly for the other. Identifying which presentation is in front of you is the decision that governs everything downstream.

This 90 minute session is built as an advanced approach for those who see this condition and want to work with it more precisely. It does not assume medical training, and every clinical concept, every laboratory measure, and every diagnostic criterion is explained from the ground up in language a practitioner without a medical education can use immediately.

This session is ideal for herbalists, Ayurvedic practitioners, nutritionists, and anyone in practice who wants to move beyond a single PCOS protocol toward a strategy that fits the woman in front of them. All are welcome.

Global Herbalism Approach to PCOS: New Insights

Sept 28th, 2026

5PM, Pacific, 8PM, Eastern

90 min webinar

This is a working session, delivered in plain language and built around clinical decisions rather than around a list of herbs. It goes considerably deeper than a general introduction, and it explains every technical term it uses, so that a practitioner without medical training can follow it fully and apply it the same week.

We begin with the diagnosis itself, because a great many clients arrive misinformed about their own condition. You will learn how PCOS is actually diagnosed, what the criteria require, and why the name is misleading, since the cysts are not cysts and a woman can have PCOS with entirely normal ovaries on ultrasound. From there we work through the four recognized presentations, what distinguishes them, and how to identify which one you are looking at from history and observation alone.

The metabolic core comes next. For most women with PCOS, insulin resistance is the engine driving the hormonal picture, and understanding that mechanism explains why the symptoms cluster as they do and why conventional weight advice so often fails. We cover how insulin resistance is actually measured and what to do when no testing has been done at all. We then address androgen excess, the focus on testosterone and how these translate into the acne and hair changes clients describe.

This session uses the Global Herbalism approach. Rather than treating any one tradition as the whole answer, Global Herbalism draws on the best of the world’s great healing systems, the Western herbal and scientific tradition, Ayurveda, and Traditional Chinese Medicine, and places them alongside conventional medical understanding. Each of these systems sorts PCOS presentations in ways the single Western diagnosis does not, which is precisely why the comparative view is useful.

Inositol has the best clinical data of anything in this field, and we cover the myo and D-chiro forms, the ratio question, and how it compares with conventional first line treatment. Berberine has been directly compared with metformin in randomized trials, and we look at what those trials found and their limitations. Spearmint has small but real antiandrogen data. Natural remedies from Western, Ayurveda and Chinee medicine are each placed in their proper position, with an explicit statement of what is well supported, what is traditional, and what is simply marketing. Clear visual illustrations bring each concept to life in a way that is immediately relatable and easy to remember.

We take the long view. PCOS is a lifelong metabolic condition, not a fertility problem that resolves, and it carries elevated risk of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and endometrial changes. You will learn what warrants monitoring, what warrants referral, and how to communicate both to a client without alarming her.

This session is taught with respect for the clinical questions afflicted persons and practitioners actually face. The instructor, K.P. Khalsa, brings over 5 decades of hands-on clinical experience in herbal and integrative medicine together. Khalsa is a professor at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and teaches at two universities of natural medicine. As a widely respected educator and author in the field, he is committed to education that is rooted in both current medical evidence and real clinical experience, and that is careful to present what is conventional from what is traditional.

No medical background required. All are welcome.
