Every space you inhabit is either supporting your health, clarity, and vitality, or quietly working against it. The orientation of your home, the placement of your rooms, the direction you sleep, and the flow of light and air through your living space: in the ancient Indian science of Vastu Shastra these are not matters of aesthetic preference. They are understood as determinants of the quality of energy available to everyone who lives and works within that space.
Vastu Shastra, literally the science of dwelling, is one of the oldest and most complete systems of sacred architecture and spatial design in the world. It predates feng shui, predates most architectural traditions still practiced today, and sits at the intersection of Ayurveda, Jyotish, and Vedic cosmology as the discipline concerned with how the built environment shapes human experience at every level: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. Its principles are encoded in some of the most ancient Sanskrit texts in existence, and its influence can be traced in temple architecture, palace design, and village planning across thousands of years of Indian civilization.
This course brings the essential principles of Vastu Shastra to life in a clear, practical, and immediately applicable way, with no prior knowledge required and no renovation necessary.
Your space is speaking. This course teaches you how to listen.
This course is ideal for students of yoga and Ayurveda who want to expand their knowledge of the Vedic sister sciences, and for anyone who wants to uplevel their home and office surroundings.

Vastu: The Vedic art of interior and exterior design
Aug 3, 2026
5 to 5:45PM, Pacific (8 to 8:45PM, Eastern)
Vastu Shastra is not interior decoration, and it is not superstition. It is a complete and sophisticated system describing how the natural forces that govern the cosmos (the five elements, the cardinal directions, the movement of the sun, and the qualities of the earth) are understood to express themselves within the built environment and to influence the lives of the people who inhabit it. Developed over thousands of years by
Vedic architects, physicians, and sages whose understanding of the relationship between space and human wellbeing was both cosmologically profound and practically precise, Vastu Shastra represents one of humanity’s most complete attempts to consciously align the human dwelling with the natural order.
Its foundational texts establish a comprehensive framework for understanding how spatial orientation, room placement, proportion, materials, color, light, water, and the five elements interact to create environments that, in the tradition’s view, either support or undermine the health, relationships, prosperity, and consciousness of their inhabitants. These are presented not as arbitrary rules but as the distilled observations of generations of practitioners who understood human beings as continuously shaped by the natural forces around them.
In this course you will receive a thorough, accessible, and practically grounded introduction to the essential principles of Vastu Shastra: how it works, what it addresses, and how you can begin applying its insights to your own home or workspace immediately, without structural renovation, without specialist tools, and without prior knowledge of Ayurveda or Vedic science.
The course balances deep respect for the classical tradition with honest, practical guidance for contemporary Western living. It acknowledges both what the ancient texts teach and how those teachings translate into real improvements in the spaces where modern people actually live, and it is careful to distinguish core classical doctrine from later regional and symbolic interpretation.
This course introduces Vastu as a step toward our upcoming longer Vastu course
What You Will Learn
• The foundations of Vastu Shastra and its place in the Vedic tradition: its classical textual sources, its relationship to Ayurveda and Jyotish, and the five elements as they correspond to directions, zones, and functions within the built environment.
• The eight directions and the Vastu Purusha Mandala: the elemental and functional qualities of each direction, the cosmic diagram underlying all Vastu planning, and how that diagram maps onto any home or building.
• The room placements that matter most: the classical guidance for the entrance, kitchen, and bedroom, the importance of keeping the central Brahmasthan open and clear, and how sleeping direction is said to influence rest and energy, with the rationale behind each.
• Practical remediation without renovation: how color, materials, lighting, water features, plants, mirrors, and symbolic objects are used to address elemental imbalances in spaces you cannot structurally change, and what the classical texts actually say about their placement.
• Applying Vastu to your own space and constitution: simple room-by-room assessments you can perform today, how your individual constitution shapes which directional energies matter most for you, and how the same principles extend to offices, workspaces, and healing environments.
