Natural Support for Parasites
From annoying to deadly…
They are usually tiny, perhaps microscopic, but they can cause a lot of problems.
This class, taught by K.P. Khalsa, provides a grounded, realistic introduction to how natural medicine approaches parasites and gastrointestinal bugs, with a strong emphasis on safety, differential thinking, and appropriate testing.
Students learn to distinguish true parasitic infections from common look-alikes such as SIBO, IBS, food intolerances, dysbiosis, medication effects, and anxiety-driven symptoms. We review transmission routes, risk factors (travel, water exposure, animal contact, immunosuppression), hallmark symptom patterns, and the limits of symptom-based self-diagnosis.
A central focus is evaluation: when to use stool parasite exams, PCR testing, and when to use other lab tests. Then we survey natural remedies common to integrative practice—botanicals, nutraceuticals, and dietary strategies.
We will look at how to avoid “shotgun” protocols that increase adverse effects without improving outcomes. Students also learn how to recognize red flags that require urgent medical care and how to coordinate natural support alongside standard antiparasitic therapy when indicated.
The class includes practical case examples, product quality concerns, and a stepwise “decision tree” for conservative care, monitoring, and referral.
In this class we learn:
· What parasites are, what they eat and where they live
· Various parasite types
· The symptoms they cause
· Prevention tips
· Targeted remedies to eliminate them
