For those seeking advanced training as professional herbalists, the IIEI offers a second year of the Professional Herbalist Course. The second year focuses on evaluation and assessment techniques and clinical application. It presents more in depth information on European, Ayurvedic and Traditional Chinese herbal traditions.
The 9-month training program is offered in a series of three modules: Module 4 – Fall quarter; Module 5 – Winter quarter; and Module 6 – Spring quarter. You need not take the modules in sequence, and you need not finish them all in one year. You will receive a certificate of completion for each module. After successful completion of all three modules, you will receive your Advanced Professional Herbalist Certificate. The prerequisite to enter the program is to have taken all three modules of the first year course or equivalent classes and/or study.
Module 4
The Fall Quarter module will include strategy for creating an herbal formula, dosing strategies, diagnostic techniques (glandular body typing, face reading, etc.), herbal toxicology and pharmacology, advanced Chinese and Ayurvedic philosophy and strategy, low dose herbs, degenerative disease (liver disease and environmental illness), advanced clinical conditions (closed head trauma, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, pain, etc.), clinical case management and case studies.
Module 5
The Winter Quarter Module will include strategy for creating an herbal formula, advanced energetics, diagnostic techniques (tongue diagnosis, clinical signs and symptoms, advanced Ayurvedic techniques, etc.), herbal toxicology and pharmacology, low dose herbs, advanced Chinese and Ayurvedic philosophy and strategy, clinical conditions (pediatrics, chronic viral diseases), degenerative diseases (neuromuscular disease, diabetes), clinical management and case studies.
Module 6
In this module we will expand our knowledge of Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine and the energetics that underline their clinical applications. We will discuss case management and plant chemistry in each session we will select an area of advanced clinical interest and explore it further. Focus will also be on advanced cardiovascular, pulmonary, joints and elderly care. These modules will also include strategies for creating herbal formulas, low dose herbs, clinical diagnosis including tongue and evaluating laboratory tests, herbal toxicology and pharmacology, Chinese and Ayurvedic philosophy and strategy, clinical case management and case studies.
